DGCA Remote Pilot Training & Certification in India – Get Your Drone Licence

Drone Mandi partners with DGCA-approved Remote Pilot Training Organisations (RPTOs) across India to make certified drone pilot training accessible, affordable, and career-ready. Whether you are a first-time flyer looking to earn your Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC), an agricultural worker seeking a category-specific licence, or an experienced pilot upgrading to a Medium or Large category endorsement — our training network connects you with the right RPTO, in the right city, at the right cost.

🎓 DGCA-Approved RPTOs Only — India Drone Rules 2021 Compliant

India's Drone Rules 2021 and the subsequent UAS Rules mandate that anyone operating a drone commercially — or operating a Medium or Large category drone for any purpose — must hold a valid Remote Pilot Certificate issued by the DGCA. Certificates are tied to specific drone categories (Small, Medium, Large) and require both ground theory training and hands-on flight training at a DGCA-authorised RPTO. Training hours, syllabus content, and examination standards are all prescribed by the DGCA. Drone Mandi helps you navigate this process from enrolment to certificate — with RPTOs who are accountable, experienced, and operating on the Digital Sky platform.

We do not run training ourselves — we connect you with verified, DGCA-approved RPTOs in your city who deliver the full training programme under DGCA oversight. Every RPTO in our network has been vetted for quality of instruction, training infrastructure, drone fleet condition, and post-training placement support.

  • DGCA-approved RPTOs only — no unaccredited training centres
  • Training available for Small, Medium, and Large category drones
  • Ground theory + mandatory flight hours included in all programmes
  • Digital Sky registration and RPC application support post-training

Who Needs a Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC)?

Anyone flying a Medium or Large category drone — commercially or recreationally — must hold a valid RPC. Commercial operators of Small category drones in controlled or restricted airspace also require certification. If you are being paid to fly — for real estate, agriculture, surveying, inspection, events, or film — you legally need an RPC. Flying without one exposes you to DGCA enforcement action and invalidates any insurance coverage on the flight.

Small vs Medium vs Large — Which Category Do You Need?

DGCA classifies drones by all-up weight. Small category covers drones between 2 kg and 25 kg — the most common commercial segment including DJI Matrice, agricultural sprayers, and survey drones. Medium covers 25–150 kg. Large covers above 150 kg. Most working pilots need a Small category RPC as a minimum. Agricultural sprayer operators typically train on Medium category. Drone Mandi matches you with the right RPTO for your target category.

What Happens After You Get Certified?

Your RPC is valid for 10 years and is registered on the Digital Sky platform alongside your drone's UIN (Unique Identification Number). Once certified, you can apply for flight permissions through Digital Sky, take on commercial work, join Drone Mandi's verified pilot network, and start earning from the platform. Many of our certified pilots receive their first paid mission booking within days of getting listed.

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on the drone category. Nano drones (under 250 g) and Micro drones (250 g to 2 kg) used for non-commercial purposes do not require a Remote Pilot Certificate. However, all Small (2–25 kg), Medium (25–150 kg), and Large (above 150 kg) category drones require an RPC regardless of purpose. If you are flying commercially — for real estate, agriculture, events, surveying, or inspection — you need a valid RPC even for smaller drones operating in controlled airspace. Flying without a licence exposes you to DGCA enforcement and invalidates your insurance.
A Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC) is the official drone pilot licence issued by the DGCA under India's Drone Rules 2021. To obtain one, you must complete a training programme at a DGCA-approved Remote Pilot Training Organisation (RPTO), pass a written theory examination, complete the mandatory flight hours under a certified instructor, and apply through the Digital Sky platform. Drone Mandi connects you with accredited RPTOs in your city and guides you through the entire process — from enrolment to certificate in hand.
A Remote Pilot Training Organisation (RPTO) is a training centre approved by the DGCA to deliver official drone pilot training. Only RPTOs on the DGCA's approved list can issue training completion certificates that are accepted for RPC applications. Choosing an unaccredited training provider — regardless of how professional they appear — means your training certificate will not be valid for the RPC application. Drone Mandi only connects you with verified, DGCA-listed RPTOs with a track record of quality instruction and high examination pass rates.
Ground theory training for a Small category RPC typically takes 3–5 days at the RPTO. Mandatory flight training is 5–10 hours under an approved instructor. After completing training, the DGCA written examination is scheduled through Digital Sky. From enrolment to receiving your RPC, the full process typically takes 2–4 weeks depending on examination scheduling and DGCA processing timelines. Agricultural operator programmes may run slightly longer due to mission-specific practical modules.
Training cost varies by RPTO, city, and drone category. Small category RPC programmes typically range from ₹15,000 to ₹40,000, covering ground theory, mandatory flight hours, examination fees, and Digital Sky registration support. Medium category programmes cost more due to additional flight hours and aircraft complexity. Agricultural drone operator training is sometimes subsidised under state government schemes and central government drone promotion initiatives — ask your RPTO about eligibility. Submit the Drone Mandi enquiry form and we will share RPTO-specific pricing for your city.
Yes, in several cases. The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for drones and the government's push for agricultural drone adoption have led to subsidised or free training programmes for farmers and agricultural workers in several states. Schemes under the Kisan Drone initiative and state-level agricultural department drone programmes offer fully sponsored training for eligible farmers. Additionally, the Skill India platform periodically lists subsidised drone pilot courses. Drone Mandi's RPTO partners are familiar with current subsidy eligibility and will advise you at the time of enrolment.
Under India's Drone Rules 2021, the minimum age for a Remote Pilot Certificate is 18 years. You must also hold a Class 10 (SSC) certificate or equivalent as the minimum educational qualification. There is no upper age limit. You are required to be medically fit — a self-declaration of fitness is sufficient; no formal aviation medical examination is mandated for most categories. A valid government-issued photo ID and Aadhaar are required for Digital Sky registration and RPC application.
No — Drone Mandi is a marketplace that connects aspiring pilots with DGCA-approved RPTOs across India. We do not conduct training ourselves. What we do is vet RPTOs for quality, match you with the best option in your city and budget, assist with the enrolment process, and support your Digital Sky registration once training is complete. After certification, you can join Drone Mandi's active pilot network and receive paid mission opportunities directly through the platform.
Yes. A valid DGCA RPC is the gateway to commercial drone work in India. After certification, you can join Drone Mandi's verified pilot network — where real estate developers, wedding planners, construction firms, and industrial clients book pilots directly through the platform. Many newly certified pilots receive their first paid booking within days of getting listed. Drone Mandi also has a backup pilot programme where you are dispatched as a replacement when a primary pilot cancels — a reliable way to build flight hours and income in the early stages of your career.
A Remote Pilot Certificate is valid for 10 years from the date of issue. Renewal requires a recurrency training programme — a shorter refresher course at an RPTO — and re-examination. Drone Mandi's RPTO partners offer renewal and recurrency training programmes. It is important to renew before expiry, as flying on an expired RPC has the same legal consequences as flying without a licence — including DGCA enforcement and insurance invalidation.
